How do I handle the constant push back and defensive behavior , making me the bad guy or the one that doesn’t get it?
I understand this. I’ve gone through the same thing with my boyfriend who is a recovering opiate/heroin addict. When he is in active addiction, he gets extremely defensive and nothing I say or do will change his behavior. There’s a lot of shame in addiction and it’s usually why they get so defensive. Sometimes the best thing you can do is say “I love you” and just walk away. This is where you can really take some time to take care of yourself and re-energize your mind and body. In my experience, the defensive behavior goes away after a while because they realize the consequences of their actions.
How are things going for you today?
