Have you lost compassion for other’s substance use?

After dealing with a loved one’s addiction for so long have you lost compassion for other’s substance use? I caught myself feeling completely uninterested in a drunk man’s request for help (to find the bus terminal at 4pm in the afternoon) and was surprised at myself after. Wondering if others have experienced this loss of compassion?

I know what you mean. I think we just get tired of it all. I always thought myself a compassionate person, but when you are dealing with addiction, it is so frustrating and anger inducing. I think if we are honest, we get angry because the addict has refused help, has stolen from us, has ruined many holidays, etc etc. So when we see another addict we are probably projecting all those negative feelings on to them.
